Dear Friends:
Thank you for registering for Des Plaines Pounds Down, the newly
initiated program focusing on improving your overall health, as well
as that of our entire community. As you may or may not know, our
program is not just about weight loss, it’s about wellness and
fitness. It is a process, and a way of life, that we hope our
community will embrace.
Now that you are registered you will receive mailings regarding
upcoming Des Plaines Pounds Down Programs and other important health
related information.
We are extremely excited to tell you about our upcoming Exercise
In The Park Program, 8:00 am—10:00 am, Saturdays, July 12, 19, 26
and August 2, 2008 at the Lake Park Pavilion at the Des Plaines Park
District’s Lake Park, Lee Street and Touhy Avenue. Exercise in the
Park is free and anyone can attend. The classes will be conducted by
two certified personal trainers, Tanya Hills leading the aerobics,
and Lisa Carbello teaching Zumba. Exercise in the Park is being made
possible due to a generous donation of Des Plaines Material and
Landscape Supply.
Remember, Des Plaines Pounds Down is about you taking the
initiative to make healthy choices about your lifestyle. (Of course,
everyone’s current health status is unique and it is strongly
recommended that you consult with your doctor before starting any
weight loss program.) When you registered you were given a
Weight-Blood Pressure-Activity Log Card for you to maintain. We
encourage you to do so. Exercise in the Park is a perfect activity
to add to your log card! In addition, the sites below provide weight
and/or blood pressure monitoring.

Holy Family Medical Center, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital,
the Des Plaines Park District, along with a growing number of
individual professionals, organizations and businesses, are offering
many incentives to help inspire you to choose a healthier lifestyle
through nutrition, exercise and fitness. Look for more information
on the Des Plaines Pounds Down participants and their links on the
City website. (Check out the Des Plaines Pounds Down display at the
Des Plaines Library through the month of July.)
Remember, when you registered for Des Plaines Pounds Down you
became eligible to participate in a raffle prize drawing on the
first and third Monday of the month at the City Council Meeting. The
drawings are broadcast live at 7:00 pm on the first and third Monday
of the month, on local Cable Channel 17. Health related items, as
well as other prizes, will be awarded. Prize winners are also posted
on the City’s website.
Until next time...thank you for participating in Des Plaines
Pounds Down. Together, we can become a healthier Des Plaines.
Sincerely,

Tony Arredia
