Levee 50 Construction/Lane Closure on Rand
Road
Posted: September 3, 2008
The Des Plaines Engineering Department has received notification
from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that they will be
implementing a lane closure on Rand Road, south of Ballard Road, in
order to complete sewer construction associated with the Levee 50
project. The lane closure will begin this week and last for
approximately two weeks. For the first week, the lane closure will
be on the west side (southbound Rand Road). In the second week, the
lane closure will shift to the east side (northbound Rand Road).
The Rand Park Flood Control and Multi-Use Trail Project (Levee
50) is the first of six flood control projects included in the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers’ Des Plaines River Project. The Levee 50
project consists of a series of earthen levees, floodwalls, and pump
stations designed to protect areas of Des Plaines, Park Ridge and
unincorporated Maine Township located east of the Des Plaines River
and subject to flooding from the River. The project also includes a
multi-use trail that will close a gap in the existing Des Plaines
River Trail. Construction on the Levee 50 project began in 2003 and
is expected to be completed in 2008.
More information on the Levee 50 project is available from the
Engineering page of the City of Des Plaines website.
