Special Events: Annual Fish Boil / River Days

Annual Fish Boil / River DaysThe Des Plaines History Center's annual Fish Boil will be held on Friday, August 24 2007. Spaces are still available at all four seatings: 5:00, 5:45, 6:30, and 7:15. Prices are $15.00/members, $17.00/non-members and for children under 12, $8.00/members and $9.00/non-members. Each meal includes white fish, potatoes, onions, coleslaw, dessert, iced tea and lemonade. Call 847-391-5399 for reservations. The Fish Boil will be held outdoors on the grounds of the History Center, 781-789 Pearson Street.

Live music by musician Hap Holly will be played during each seating.

The annual Fish Boil has since its inception been provided by local business Don's Dock. Originally from Door County, the family is no stranger to the fish boil tradition. White fish, onions and potatoes are boiled in a large pot over a wood fire. Just before the fish is ready to serve, kerosene is added to the fire causing the fire to flare up and the fish pot to boil over. The famous boil over is much anticipated by Fish Boil patrons and happens just before each seating. This year's fish catch comes directly from Door County, making the event even more authentic.

The History Center's Fish Boil is part of the two-day celebration called River Days. The celebration is now in its eighth year and continues to draw crowds.

Supported by the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park District, and the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Des Plaines History Center consists of three facilities, the Visitor Center, the Kinder House, and the Fisher-Wright House. For more information about programs, call 847-391-5399 or visit www.desplaineshistory.org.
