Special Events: Blood Drive
Des Plaines Community
Health Nurse Madeline May would like to remind the public that the
Des Plaines Community Blood Drive will be held 1:00 - 6:30 pm,
Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at the Des Plaines Library, 1501
Ellinwood Street. LifeSource is coordinating the blood drive.
Individuals wishing to donate are encouraged to call 847-803-7943.
According to May, blood demands remain constant throughout the
year across the country, but Illinois is particularly always on the
verge of a shortage because of the high volume of demands in the
area. May sites a recent article in the press stating that many of
the loyal donors from the World War II and post war era are aging
and in need of blood themselves. In addition, more and more people
have become ineligible to donate for health reasons.
"We truly need blood and are requesting our local community to
make an effort to try and help meet these demands. It is so
important. It’s something you don’t always think about until it hits
home and you or a loved one needs it. We’re asking everyone to
please consider donating," May concluded.
