Special Events: Let's Celebrate Trees - National Arbor Day
In keeping with the national declaration, Arbor Day was observed
in Des Plaines last Friday, April 27, 2007. Each year the City of
Des Plaines celebrates Arbor Day at an elementary school chosen by
the Des Plaines Keep Des Plaines Beautiful Commission.
This year the event, coordinated by Des Plaines Environmental
Services Coordinator Christine Bajor, was held at 1:00 pm at South
School, 1535 Everett Street. During the Arbor Day Assembly South
School students recited poems about trees and were visited by Mayor
Tony Arredia who read the official National Arbor Day Proclamation,
which reflects on the value of trees and nature. (The City of Des
Plaines has been recognized as a "Tree City" for over 20 years.)
Following the assembly, students went outside to plant a tree on the
school property.
