
Special Events: Ralph Frese to Speak at History
Center
Ralph Frese, founder of the Des Plaines River Canoe Marathon,
will give a special presentation at the Des Plaines History Center
on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 pm. The program entitled, "The
Des Plaines River from "Discovery" to the Present," will trace the
unique history of the waterway that flows through the city of Des
Plaines.
This program is free of charge and no reservations are required.
Frese is well known throughout the canoeing community for his
advocacy work related to waterways, his building and restoration
work on canoes and for founding the Des Plaines River Canoe Marathon
in 1957.
Articles about Frese's work have recently appeared in the Daily
Herald, The Des Plaines Times, and the fall 2007 issue of Chicago
Wilderness magazine.
Supported by the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park
District, and the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Des Plaines
History Center consists of three facilities, the Visitor Center, the
Kinder House, and the Fisher-Wright House. For more information
