Special Events: Coffee Talk - Chicago Police Deparment

On June 12 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm the History Center will present, "Go Behind the Stars of the Chicago Police Department" as part of its monthly Coffee Talk series. The presentation will feature author Daniel P. Smith, author of "On the Job," a book about the Chicago Police Department. The program is free of charge and will be held in the Visitor Center, 781 Pearson Street. Free coffee, tea and cookies will be served.

Author, journalist, and lifelong Chicagoan Daniel P. Smith will guide the audience into the closed-door society that is the Chicago Police Department. Sharing never-before-told stories of the tolls the job exacts on the officers, their families, and their lives, Smith interweaves a discussion of Chicago's criminal landscape and police department culture. Smith, himself the product of a Chicago Police family, also discusses the personal experiences that led him to penning On the Job and the unique perspective he was able to achieve given his background.

Supported by the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park District, and the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Des Plaines History Center consists of three facilities, the Visitor Center, the Kinder House, and the Fisher-Wright House.
