Special Events: Public Awareness Safety Day - Fun For All Ages

The Des Plaines Fire Department would like residents to be aware of the following:

The Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) Foundation hosts its first-ever public awareness event at 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the NIPSTA Campus, 2300 Patriot Boulevard, Glenview. The facility is home to a 20-acre training facility for police, fire, public works, and other emergency response personnel. Dozens of Chicagoland communities benefit from the one-of-a-kind training opportunities that are delivered to local first responders.

Participants of all ages may join the fun. Scheduled activities include a fire hose spray, squad car rides, search dog demonstrations, horse-mounted police, backhoe equipment operations, high-rise fire rescues, driver training simulators, crime scene evidence collection, touch-a-truck displays, and more. Food and beverage service is available on-site. Free parking is across the street from the NIPSTA Campus entrance.

To showcase its specialized programs and facilities, NIPSTA is open to the public for this one day of live demonstrations and hands-on activities. Scenarios will be staged and combined with interactive displays of public safety equipment and vehicles. This provides a unique opportunity to not only meet and greet fire, police and public works professionals, but also get an up-close look at the tools of their trade.

Admission is $5 per person. Children under three years of age will be admitted free. Ticket sales are available at the door - cash only. All proceeds benefit the public safety training mission of the NIPSTA Foundation.

The NIPSTA Foundation is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation that is organized and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Foundation is a tax-exempt entity pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the federal Internal Revenue Code.

For more information about this action-packed day, call 847-998-8090 or visit www.NIPSTA.org.
