Senior Police Academy
The Des Plaines Police Department will he hosting the 1st Senior
Citizen Police Academy starting at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 5,
2008, at the Frisbie Center, 52 E. Northwest Highway Des Plaines,
Illinois 60016.
The Senior Citizen Police Academy, which is free of charge, is
held on eight consecutive Wednesdays and allows attendees to learn
about the various operations of the Police Department. Classes,
which typically run about two hours in length, cover a variety of
subjects. Learn about identity theft, cons, scams, and fraud and how
to protect yourself from being a victim. Receive safety tips on
better driving along with personal safety tips.
Seniors attending the Academy will be exposed to different types
of instruction. The program includes classroom training, open
discussion, and hands-on training. Seniors will also qualify for a
2-hour ride along with a police officer and personally experience
patrol operations. All in all, it’s a fun-filled eight weeks, and it
gives participants a better understanding of the Police Department
and its officers. Attendees must be 60 years of age, with no prior
