2007 Press Release: 2007-2008 Vehicle and Pet License Information

For immediate release
April 24, 2007

Des Plaines vehicle license stickers for 2007-2008 will go on sale April 30, 2007 at City Hall, 1420 Miner Street, as well as at various currency exchanges. Vehicles, if registered with the Illinois Secretary of State to a Des Plaines address or stored in Des Plaines, will be presumed to require a City of Des Plaines vehicle sticker. This includes leased vehicles, company cars, and vehicles registered to a Des Plaines address, but housed in another town, should they be used on City streets.

Residents who have purchased a 2006-2007 City sticker or Pet license will be mailed a pre-printed renewal form the last week in April. If you do not receive a form by May 15, 2007, please call 847-391-5329 or 847-391-5330 or stop by City Hall for an application. Mailed payments will be processed and stickers will be mailed out to applicant. The mail system helps avoid long lines at City Hall. Payment envelopes must be postmarked by June 30, 2007 to be considered on time.

Residents may also bring their pre-printed forms, should they decide not to mail their forms, to various currency exchanges, the Police Neighborhood Resource Center (PNRC), 1928 E. Touhy Avenue, or come in person to City Hall, 1420 Miner Street, during normal business hours. Normal business hours for City Hall are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Additionally, City Hall will have extended vehicle sticker hours, 9:00 am – Noon, Saturdays, June 23 and June 30, and 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday-Friday, June 25-29.

The City also has a drop box for "after-hour payments" on the wall at the City Hall entrance. Residents can contact the PNRC at 847-827-2625 for weekday hours of operation. The PNRC will be open 8:00 am - Noon, every Saturday in June, for residents to purchase City stickers. The Des Plaines Police Department, open 24 hours a day, 1418 Miner Street, will also accept application forms with payment by check.

The last day to purchase vehicle stickers at the regular rate is June 30. During the month of July stickers are an additional $10, and beginning August 1, significant late fees apply. (Please see the "Instructions" portion on the application).
