For immediate release
September 25, 2007
The Des Plaines Police Department, as part of the "You Drink, You
Drive, You Lose" and "Click It or Ticket" Statewide Campaigns,
conducted their second 2007 Roadside Traffic Safety Checkpoint on
Friday, September 21, 2007. The checkpoint was held at 3000 S. River
Road. Assisting the Police Department at the checkpoint were members
of the following Des Plaines organizations: Police Reserves,
Emergency Management Agency, and Citizens On Patrol.
A total of 297 vehicles passed through this safety checkpoint.
Officers were concentrating on DUI, drivers license, insurance,
equipment and seatbelt violations. A total of eighty-four tickets
were issued. These included two for DUI, fourteen for Driver’s
License violations, twenty for "No Proof of Insurance," and
twenty-nine for seatbelt violations.
The third Roadside Traffic Safety Checkpoint is already in the
planning stage and is set for Wednesday, November 21, 2007. This is
the day before Thanksgiving, which, according to Police, is
traditionally one of the biggest drinking nights of the year.
Besides the checkpoint, Des Plaines Police will have additional
roving DUI patrols on the streets that night in an attempt to detect
intoxicated motorists.
