
2008 Press Release: Free Emergency 911 Cell Phones For Des Plaines

The City of Des Plaines and Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart
invite all Des Plaines senior citizens, to register and receive a
free Emergency 9-1-1 Cell Phone at 10:00 am, Monday, April 28, 2008.
Reservations are required to attend the cell phone distribution
event at the Des Plaines City Hall, 1420 Miner Street in Des
Plaines.
The Cell Phones for Seniors Program provides a free 9-1-1
emergency digital cellular telephone to county residents over the
age of 65, who DO NOT have a cellular phone. Having a digital cell
phone that can reach emergency services offers seniors an extra
measure of security as they are driving, taking public
transportation or participating in outdoor activities.
In addition to the phone, each senior attending the April 28,
2008 event will receive two batteries, a charger and instructions on
how to access 9-1-1 services on their cell phone.
Des Plaines residents who would like to donate their old and
unwanted digital/analog cell phones to the Sheriff’s Cell Phones for
Seniors Program can drop them off at the following Des Plaines
locations:
Des Plaines City Hall-1420 Miner Street
Des Plaines Frisbie Senior Center- 52 West Northwest Highway
Des Plaines Park District-Prairie Lakes – 515 East Dempster/Thacker
Des Plaines Public Library - 1501 Ellinwood
Any brand, make or model of cellular phones will be accepted,
whether it is in working order or not. Even components of cellular
telephones will be accepted.
Please call the City of Des Plaines Health and Human Services
Division at 847-391-5480 to register to attend this one-day event.
