2008 Press Release: 2008 Branch Collection

For immediate release
March 20, 2008

Public Works will be collecting branches from Monday, April 7 to Monday, September 15th.

During these months, residents will have 6 collections based on zip codes.

Branches:

  • must be on the parkway by 7:00 am on the first day of your zip codes collection week.
  • need to be loose, neatly stacked on the parkway with cut ends pointing to the curb.
  • must be 2 feet or longer, cleanly cut without attached roots.
  • must be smaller than 6 inches in diameter (measured at the cut end). Larger diameters will not be collected.
  • should not be bundled or tied for Public Works collections.
  • should not obstruct sidewalks or streets.
  • will not be collected on City holidays.
  • placed out after the last collection of each zip code will need to follow requirements set by hauler for appropriate collections. Please see requirements for appropriate disposal by hauler.

There will be only one collection per scheduled week. Branches may be collected on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of the week listed. Having branches out on the first day of your zip code collection week ensures the Public Works Department, as well as the resident, that branches will be collected appropriately. If branches are placed out late, incorrectly, or cannot be reached, collection will not occur until the next designated week.

Zip Code: 60016

1st collection: Begins April 7
2nd collection: Begins May 5
3rd collection: Begins June 2
4th collection: Begins July 7
5th collection: Begins August 4
6th collection: Begins September 2 (Labor Day is Sept. 1st)

Zip Code: 60018

1st collection: Begins April 21
2nd collection: Begins May 19
3rd collection: Begins June 16
4th collection: Begins July 21
5th collection: Begins August 18
6th collection: Begins September 15

If you missed branch collection, you can:

  1. Store branches (NOT on parkway) until the next scheduled collection (i.e. if you missed spring collection, store branches away until autumn).

  2. Bundle branches (up to four feet in length with biodegradable string) and dispose as yard waste for ARC Disposal.

  3. Hire a private contractor to dispose of the branches.

If residents have additional questions, they may contact 847-391-5464 or 847-391-5650.
