2008 Press Release: City Announces Levee 50 Ribbon Cutting Postponed
For immediate release
May 15, 2008
City of Des Plaines Officials have announced that the Levee 50
Flood Control Project ribbon cutting, originally scheduled for early
June, has been postponed due to the high water and storm events in
August 2007 and frequent rains this spring. In particular,
construction of the trail on the north side of the Miner Street wall
has been "on hold" pending dry ground conditions so that the base
can be properly prepared.
Other remaining work includes the completion of the Metropolitan
Water Reclamation District (MWRD) interceptor sewer on Miner Street,
installation of two stormwater pumps, construction of the stairwell
from the Miner Street bridge to the trail, installation of the trail
lighting and railing, installation of the Rand and Ballard Road
closure gates, and general restoration. The Miner Street lane
closures must remain in place until completion of the trail,
stairwell, MWRD sewer, and restoration. The City is currently
working with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the
Illinois Tollway Authority to address the current Miner Street
congestion. Additional details will be released as they become
available.
