Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan, former Des Plaines Mayor D. Moylan presented the traditional State of the City Address at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Breakfast, Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Manzo’s Banquets. Mayor Moylan initiated the City’s Address which included presentations by Director of Finance Dorothy Wisniewski, Director of Public Works and Engineering Timothy Oakley, and Director of Community and Economic Development Michael Conlan. Topics presented included the City’s financial climate, developing the 2010 budget, flood prevention initiatives, and the status of the City’s business environment. Some developments that are expected to "change the face of the community in the coming year" include the downtown façade rehabilitation program, the Nippon Express Expansion on Touhy Avenue and the development of the casino off River Road near the City’s southern boundaries. With the addition of a sewer user fee, flood projects once anticipated to come into fruition in 2017 will now be a reality by 2013.
