Utility Billing and Payment Options

Des Plaines provides water service and contracts for refuse collection to residents. The City's Finance Department accepts a number of payment options including: cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, ATM, ACH debit and E-Pay. Payment by using a credit card can be made either in person or by phone at 391-5330 during normal business hours, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. When paying by phone, each customer is charged an additional $5 administrative fee.

Payment via ACH debit is made by automatically deducted the money from the customer's checking or savings account on the bill's due date. You can download a sign-up application from the Forms and Permits page of the website and return it to the Finance Department at City Hall.

Utility bills are rendered by the Finance Department on a bi-monthly basis. The due date is clearly marked on each bill and is the 5th day of the month after the bill is received. If a customer is unable to pay by the date noted on the bill and wishes to enter payment arrangements, call a utility billing clerk at 847-391-5322. Payment arrangements are done on a case-by-case basis. Failure to pay a bill will result in late fees and eventual disconnection in service.
