The Flood Rebate Program allows up to a maximum of
$1,000.00 rebate based on 20% of the actual cost of the verifiable
construction of flood mitigation/prevention projects performed on a
residence, dating back to January 1, 1994.
Des Plaines homeowners who have had flood
mitigation/prevention construction work performed on their dwelling
may apply for the rebate. Single-family homes and town homes are
eligible whether owner occupied or not. Landlords may apply.
Examples of the projects covered by the program
include the following types of improvements: overhead sewers;
backwater valves in basements or yards; lift stations in yards;
glass block basement windows in cases where a home is subject to
flooding; drain tile with sump pumps; basement waterproofing; backup
battery sump pumps; and sump pump connections to storm sewers.
The type of projects not covered include maintenance
items such as normal plumbing repairs, sump pump replacements, valve
replacements, sewer clean-outs and repairs.

Applications are also available in the City’s
Finance Department located on the first floor of City Hall, 1420
Miner Street, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekdays, or by calling
847-391-5325. As part of the application process, individual will be
required to submit documentation, including bid estimates,
contractor invoices and proof of payment. Additionally, a payment of
$75 will be required for completed work if a permit has not been
previously obtained from the City. Processing of the payment takes
approximately six weeks upon final approval of the rebate.
