Accomplishments as
a Department Head
Research and develop programs that enhance abilities to
fight crime and eradicate chronic nuisance activity. This
has been accomplished by amending the Vehicle Seizure and
Impoundment Ordinance, Licensing of Residential Properties Used
for Rental Purposes Ordinance to include the Crime Free Housing
Program and the Chronic Nuisance Property Abatement Ordinance.
Improved traffic enforcement through strong
programs that focus on a wide variety of traffic issues.
Traffic safety around schools is emphasized with specialized
enforcement initiatives.
Strong recruitment initiatives have been
established to locate the best candidates to be Des Plaines
Police Officers. Thorough background investigations are
conducted initially and new officers receive outstanding
training. Hiring the best recruits ultimately improves the
quality of service we provide to our community.
Continue strong Homeland Security initiatives
that are consistent with the guidelines established in the
National Incident Management System. DPPD continues to
participate in establishing policy with the Cook County Urban
Area Security Initiative and Cook County Department of Public
Health.
Neighborhood Watch Programs continue to thrive
through Quarterly Beat Meetings. Positive communications
with our citizens has resulted in zero tolerance initiatives
that address crime problems.
A strong volunteer network always assists the
Police Department with a wide variety of issues and special
events that take place during the course of a year.
Future Department

to senior citizens.
Continue to seek new revenue sources through grant funding.
Work with the City Manager's Office in the development of a new
police facility.
