Streets Division
The Street Division and Street Special
Services Division are responsible for the repair and maintenance of
the City's streets, sidewalks, curbs, and public parking lots.
Other functions include street sweeping, traffic line striping,
street sign maintenance, and weed abatement. Streets are swept
every two to three weeks when the weather permits. Snow and
ice control are given priority whenever necessary on the 239 miles
of City streets.
The City also provides wide branch pick up three times a year and
provides leaf pick up in the Fall.
 Public Works Street
Maintenance Division
This division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of
over 317 centerline miles of streets in the City, including the snow
and ice control program. Daily activities include:
- Asphalt patching
- Shoulder repairs
- Street sweeping
- Providing and setting up of barricades for special events
- Emergency street closures
- Barricade setup and repair
- Administration of the crack sealing program
- Street and parking lot salting
- Snow plowing
- Leaf pick up
- Public Works Facility yard maintenance
- Annual in-house paving program
Note: There are certain main arterial City streets that lie
within the City of Des Plaines, but are owned and maintained by
other government agencies. The Snow
Routes page lists these streets.
Public Works Street Special Services
This division is responsible for street signs, pavement marking,
and various building maintenance activities. The main
