Utility Billing

If you have comments or questions for the Utility Billing Division,
please send an email to waterread@desplaines.org

The Utility Billing Division of the Finance & Administrative Services Department is responsible for the billing of water, storm sewer and sanitation pick up.

Water meters are read every two months and are billed in two-month increments. Some industrial and commercial meters are read on a monthly basis due to large usage, and are billed every month. Water is measured in cubic feet. Billing is calculated in hundreds of cubic feet. One hundred cubic feet is equivalent to 748.1 gallons. The water rate currently is $3.056 per hundred cubic feet and a minimum charge of $15.28 for 500 cubic feet or less for usage inside city limits. For outside city limits the new rate is $6.112 per hundred cubic feet and a minimum charge of $30.56 for 500 cubic feet or less.

Storm sewer fees are for maintenance of the infrastructure storm sewer system. The current storm sewer rate is $0.57 per on hundred cubic feet.

Utility billing has a new service charge for Sanitary Sewer that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2008. The sanitary sewer fee is $0.70 per one hundred cubic feet of water usage. There was also an increase of garbage charges. The old rate was $35.46 for two months and will change to $36.80 for two months. The effective date was April 1, 2008.
