Well maintained properties protect the community, preserve property values and enhance the attractiveness of Des Plaines. To preserve overall quality of life, City officials routinely inspect property for exterior code violations which may be detrimental to the safety and quality of life enjoyed by our residents. The City encourages its property owners to maintain their lawns (max. 6" in grass height), remove dead trees, and trim all tree branches, hedges, and shrubs to allow persons easy access to public sidewalks and unobstructed views of vehicles. Special Garbage Pick-up to Assist Residents with Clean-Up

July 23, 2017 

In an effort to assist residents with storm clean-up, residents can place water damaged household items at the curb for disposal on their regular garbage day. PLEASE NOTE: Only flood damaged items will be accepted as part of this special pick-up service.

Water damaged refuse will be collected on residents’ normal garbage day through Friday, August 4, 2017. To ensure efficient pick-up, click here to view the guidelines that must be followed.

City Vehicle and Pet License sales start on Monday, May 1, 2017. Residents interested in renewing online can visit desplaines.org/vehiclepetlicenses to get started! All you need is the vehicle or pet ID number located on your renewal notice received in the mail, and a major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Discover). Resolution of RLUIPA Dispute

June 7, 2017 

On June 6, 2017, the City of Des Plaines resolved a dispute with the Society of American Bosnians and Herzegovinians over the use of property at 1645 Birchwood Avenue in Des Plaines. The Society and the City have expressed appreciation that all issues between the parties have now been resolved. The City has also settled all claims brought by the federal government. The Society, the City, and the federal government will dismiss all lawsuits related to this matter. More information is available here.

Americans average 1 hour and 15 minutes of driving per day, many using that time to multi-task on their mobile devices. However, driver distractions play a big part in over 1 million crashes a year in the US, causing serious injury and an unsurmountable economic impact on everyone involved. Free “Friends & Family CPR” Training for Des Plaines Residents

The Des Plaines Fire Department is once again providing two offerings of a free Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class to Des Plaines residents. The first is on Saturday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and the second is on Tuesday, April 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Both are at Fire Station #61, located at 405 S. River Rd.
Interested residents may call 847-391-5345 during business hours to register for the classes. There is a $20 registration fee, which will be fully refunded at the class.
