Fire Department Events to Celebrate 125 Years!

In 2016, the Des Plaines Fire Department is celebrating 125 years of service to the community. We invite all the citizens of Des Plaines to join us in this celebration all year long. Many activities have already occurred, but there are plenty of others yet to come. Celebration displays and activities include:

  • Now – September, the Des Plaines History Center, located at 781 Pearson St, is hosting an exhibit on the Fire Department’s 125-year history. The exhibit includes photos, firefighting gear and equipment, activities for children, videotaped interviews, and much more.
  • September 17, 2016 from noon to 5:00 pm at Fall Fest at Lake Park – the Fire Department will have a display regarding the Department’s history, including old-time firefighting vehicles that actually served in Des Plaines.
  • September 24, 2016 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Fire Station #63, 130 E Thacker St. – the Fire Department will be having an Open House, with activities, demonstrations, displays, and a celebration of this milestone anniversary.
  • Our Fire Department Interactive History Map may be accessed at desplaines.org/dpfd125. The program shows events and emergency calls from the Department’s history, including photos and videos.
  • Anniversary Apparel may be purchased at www.desplaines.org/uasdpfd125. Commemorative pint glasses with the anniversary logo (seen below) are available for $10 each at the History Center and at Fire Station #61 located at 405 S. River Road. Proceeds from the sales go to two very worthwhile local charities: The Des Plaines History Center and Operation North Pole.
