The Des Plaines Police Department’s Community Action Team invites the public to sign up for its 2017 Citizens Police Academy. The popular 10-week Academy begins March 21st, 2017 and concludes on May 23rd, 2017. The deadline for registration is March 10th to allow enough time for background checks on all applicants.
Classes will be held on Tuesday’s from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Des Plaines Police Station, located at 1418 Miner Street. The program introduces hands-on exercises, including forensics, S.W.A.T., and traffic stops, to help simulate the everyday life of a law enforcement officer in the City of Des Plaines. Open discussions on current events related to law will be facilitated, and students will gain an exclusive, firsthand perspective of the issues encountered by police officers.
Residents of Des Plaines are given priority for enrollment and space is limited. For more information, please call Officer Michael Heidkamp at 847.391.5408 or Officer Michael Meyer at 847.391.5410.
