Free “Friends & Family CPR” Training for Des Plaines Residents

The Des Plaines Fire Department is once again providing two offerings of a free Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class to Des Plaines residents. The first is on Saturday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and the second is on Tuesday, April 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Both are at Fire Station #61, located at 405 S. River Rd.
Interested residents may call 847-391-5345 during business hours to register for the classes. There is a $20 registration fee, which will be fully refunded at the class.
This class is not for certification, such as is often required of healthcare professionals. Instead, this class provides the basics of CPR and use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), which are found in airports, recreation/exercise facilities, education facilities, and many other public areas. This class teaches the students what to do to provide potentially life-saving care to a cardiac arrest victim after calling 9-1-1 and while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.
The Department provides separate CPR classes for certification for a $50 cost – dates and registration information for those classes are on the Fire Department page on the City’s website at
To register for class or to obtain more information, please call the Fire Department at 847-391-5345.
