The Des Plaines Park District, Mount Prospect Park District, and Cook County Forest Preserve maintain approximately 700 acres of parks and open space. Picturesque lakes, adventure miniature golf, family aquatic centers, state-of-the-art fitness centers, bike and hiking paths, 18-hole golf courses, horseback riding trails, and the world's largest nonresidential YMCA provide outstanding leisure and recreational service to the community.
The Cook County Forest Preserve offers more than 100 miles of paved bicycle trails and over 200 miles of multi-use trails in the Forest Preserve. Large open spaces allow your dog to run, fetch and play uninhibited and unrestrained. The District’s six nature education centers provide a gateway for discovery of the natural diversity of Cook County. Each center offers programs and displays about the plants, animals, and communities of the region, and all but Sagawau ELC have live animal exhibits.
