IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Due to the continued impact of Covid-19, the City’s Building Department is limited in receiving, processing and approving new building permit and business license applications. Applications are being reviewed in the order they are received. Please note, current review times for all permit applications is approximately three-four weeks. 

To expedite your permit application process, please review the Building Guidelines and Requirements. When submitting your application via email to permits@desplaines.org, please attach all necessary documents and include the type of permit and property address in the subject line, for example “1420 Miner St – Fence Permit”.

Beginning January 1, 2016, the City of Des Plaines began utilizing the 2015 versions of the Current Building Codes. At the same time, the City of Des Plaines began utilizing the 2014 version of the National Electrical Code.
